Stowell Family Forest
Big Pines Trail Opening
was held on August 16th, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Britton Rd, Unity NH
This was the first of what we hope will be an annual event series where we visit and appreciate different trails and sites on county lands! This event was at the Stowell Family Forest where we learned a bit of the history of the Stowell Family Farm while visiting the remaining cellar holes of the old farm, appreciated the talented work of Ron Lanigan who built and donated this beautiful, handcrafted bench, and enjoyed some fantastic views along our new Big Pines trail.
Lite refreshments were provided, and hiking-appropriate attire was recommended.
LOCATION & DRIVING DIRECTIONS: GPS: 43.2992, -72.3295
The parking lot for the Stowell trail, is off Britton rd.

Guest Speaker Program
"A Mother Tells Her Story"
Was presented by: Sharon Wood
and was held on May 17 2025, at the Unity Town Hall
Speaking as Betsey Phelps, the mother of a Union soldier from Amherst, New Hampshire who died heroically at the Battle of Gettysburg, Sharon Wood offers an informative and sensitive reflection on that sacrifice from a mother's perspective. Wood blends the Phelps boy's story with those of other men who left their New Hampshire homes to fight for the Union cause and of the families who supported them on the home front.
It was an excellent presentation!
